MR. MIGUEL PANADERO

SENIOR PROGRAMME MANAGER, KNOWLEDGE CENTRE
FOR LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT 

Miguel Panadero is the Senior Manager heading the Knowledge Centre for Leadership and Management, which provides UN staff with world-class learning opportunities in professional, management and leadership skills, as well as leads UNSSC contribution to UNLOCK.

Miguel is a Spanish national with over 20 years of international experience in the fields of learning and organisational effectiveness. In previous assignments with UNSSC he has focused on executive management and professional development, knowledge management and developing technology-enhanced learning environments. From his service at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) he also brings to the team experience in multilateral diplomacy, crisis management, policy development, human resources management and reform processes, including the design and implementation of various Oracle-based ERP solutions. 

Miguel is alumni of doctoral studies at the University of Plymouth (UK) and the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), holds a LL.M. from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) and is a member of the Spanish Bar Association.





DR. UGO CARUSO

LEARNING PORTFOLIO MANAGER, KNOWLEDGE CENTRE
FOR LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT 

Dr. Ugo Caruso currently serves as Learning Portfolio Manager for the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) Knowledge Centre for Leadership and Management (KCLM). Before joining KCLM, Ugo led the Digital Learning Unit of UNSSC’s Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development in Bonn, Germany (2015-2018). Ugo has more than 10 years of experience in coordinating, designing and developing digital learning solutions for UN Staff and partner agencies. Prior to joining UNSSC, Ugo worked for the European Centre for Minority Issues, the Council of Europe Roma and Migration Department, and was lecturer and researcher on human and minority rights at the Universities of Southern Denmark (Odense campus) and Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main (Germany).

At the country level, Ugo worked in former Yugoslavia and South Asia focusing on minority rights and conflict prevention mechanisms. He was also visiting researcher to the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Nepal), the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (Germany) and the Walther Schücking Institute for International Law (Germany).

Ugo holds a 
Ph.D. in Public International Law from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main





MS. MANUELA CARBONE

PROGRAMME ASSISTANT, KNOWLEDGE CENTRE
FOR LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT 

Manuela Carbone joined the UNSSC in November 2004, where she works as a Programme Assistant.

Manuela supported almost all of the Programme teams, starting with the former Resident Coordinator System Support Team (RCS), which then became the UN Coherence, Development, Gender & Human Right Team. She then moved to the Leadership Team, the Management Development Programme Team and is now part of the Knowledge Centre for Leadership and Management.

Manuela has organized and supported hundreds of workshops for the UN staff at all levels, including the Secretary General’s Retreats held in Turin. 

Manuela has been administering the Belbin Team Role exercise since 2005, when the UNSSC RCS Team’s mandate supported dozens of UN Country Teams every year until she eventually took her Belbin accreditation with merit in 2014.

She also became a certified ICF executive coach in 2016.

Manuela is also a professional translator and graduated from the Ecole de Traduction et d'Interprétation at Geneva University and later of from the SSLMT (Scuola di Lingue e Letterature, Traduzione e Interpretazione) at Bologna University. Before joining the UN, she worked as a freelance translator in various fields such as law, sciences, automotive and literary translation for Italian publishers in the areas of philosophy and history. 

Manuela also used to be a professional volleyball coach and, as of 2009, she acts as Advisor of the Executive Board of Turin Alzheimer’s Association on a voluntary basis




DR. XUN MA (FRANK)

ASSOCIATE FELLOW, KNOWLEDGE CENTRE FOR
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT 

Dr. Xun MA (Frank) is an Associate Fellow at the Knowledge Centre for Leadership and Management of the UNSSC, specialising in learning technologies and instructional design. Before moving to Turin, he was in his master study in Science Education with a focus on Educational Technology in UCL Institute of Education, London. He holds a B.Sc and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong SAR, China. He also spent one semester as an undergraduate exchange student in KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. He is passionate in education with great interests in online teaching and learning. He has also got two certificates from the online platform Coursera, although his favourite MOOC platform is FutureLearn. He is also a believer in science and always wants to do more in science communication





MS. SOFIA 

EXARCHOU

INTERN, KNOWLEDGE CENTRE
FOR LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT 

Sofia Exarchou is an intern at the Knowledge Centre for Leadership and Management of the UNSSC and a master’s student in Learning, Communication and Informatics at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She also holds a master’s degree in International and Comparative Education from Stockholm’s University and a bachelor's degree in Education from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. While in her Bachelor’s, she also studied at Uppsala University as an exchange student for one semester. Sofia has worked as a teacher and study counsellor for more than four years and has cooperated with several NGOs in different design projects
